We use 27 lb premium paper as standard for printing and set the same price for color and black/white printing. You can calculate the exact price for printing and binding your thesis at the print shop.

The table below shows different book thicknesses for hardback binding based on paper grade and number of pages. We recommend 32 lb paper for double-sided printing, and you can print up to 470 sides with it. 27 lb paper can print up to 500 sides. Head to the print shop, upload your thesis and use the 3D configurator to see the final look. Here are the book thickness guidelines:

• 20–70 pages with 27 lb, 21–55 pages with 32 lb = 10 mm
• 70–120 pages with 27 lb, 56–105 pages with 32 lb = 13 mm
• 121–170 pages with 27 lb, 106–155 pages with 32 lb = 19 mm
• 171–250 pages with 27 lb, 156–235 pages with 32 lb = 25 mm

The main difference is how their cover feels:

• Standard hardback binding: shiny and smooth surface
• Premium hardback binding: soft and textured faux leather look

Both of these bindings are capable of being embossed with the title of your dissertation, thesis, or Ph.D. This process is commonly known as hardback binding embossing.

Hardback binding is primarily used for larger and more significant pieces of work. Thanks to its book-like appearance and high-quality, robust cover, your work will stand out from the rest. We recommend hardback binding for the following types of academic work:

• Thesis
• Ph.D.
• Dissertation

The hardback binding is made up of two cardboard sheets and a spine that are then covered with faux leather. Afterward, the pages are glued together and attached to the binding. Note that the material differs between premium and standard hardback binding!
